During social studies, Ms. Raile’s 6th-grade students took a step back in time to the European Middle Ages by trying their hand at writing with quill pens. Life during this time revolved around the church, and with no printing press yet in Europe, all texts and books had to be painstakingly copied by hand using quills.

Students experienced the challenges of using this historical tool firsthand. From carefully dipping their quills into ink to creating each letter, they gained a deeper appreciation for the meticulous work of medieval scribes. The activity brought history to life and offered a hands-on connection to this fascinating era.
